4 Tips for Healthy Winter Skin

The winter can be a difficult time for skincare. After all, the air is cold and dry, and it can cause your skin to get dry and flaky. Plus, having your heater running indoors will dry out the air in your home, making things even more difficult for your dry winter skin. Combat dry winter skin and promote healthy skin care through the winter by adjusting your routine and paying attention to temperature and humidity. Here are 4 simple tips to help you promote healthy skin this winter.

1. Keep an Eye on Temperature

It’s true of your home and shower alike. The higher you keep the temperature in your home, the drier the air indoors will be. Plus, running a hot shower may feel refreshing during the winter, but the hot water can actually strip oil from your skin, leaving it dry and flaky. Try reducing the temperature–and the steam–to avoid winter skin problems this year.

2. Invest in a Humidifier

A great way to combat dry air in your home this winter is to use a humidifier. These devices will go a long way when it comes to adding moisture to the dry winter air. Using a humidifier in your bedroom or living room will help your skin fight off the effects of dry winter air. It can help you breathe easier, too.

3. Moisturize Frequently

Make sure to adjust your skincare routine in the winter months. During the winter, you may not want to use such harsh soaps that may strip essential oil from your skin. You may also want to use more moisturizer than normal. This doesn’t just go for your face–be sure to apply moisturizer more frequently to your hands and feet through the winter to prevent dry, red, and cracking skin.

4. Don’t Skip the Sunscreen

Even though winter days may seem grey and dreary, it’s essential to continue to use sunscreen. Even on overcast days, the clouds will reflect the sun’s light, increasing your sunlight exposure and your risk of sunburn, redness, and dryness. Make sure sunscreen is a part of your skincare routine this winter to minimize exposure to dangerous UV sunlight and protect your skin from harsh winter weather.
