3 Acne Prevention Tips

Follow these few simple acne prevention tips.

There are many elements that contribute to a person’s overall and wellness, including clean and clear skin.  However, a common skin disorder that affects many individuals is acne, which comes in the form of pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads.  There are a wide range of factors that contribute to acne including overactive oil production and skin inflammation.  Luckily, there are a few simple ways you can prevent acne and maintain clear skin.

Know Your Skin Type

When trying to prevent acne, you first need to know your skin type, which consists of oily, dry, and combination.  Oily skin is often the most prone to acne, so you may need to choose products made specifically for oily skin. There are also products designed for combination and dry skin.  Knowing your skin type can help you determine which skin care products may work best for your skin.

Wash and Moisturize

Once you know your skin type, you can choose a cleanser and moisturizer that is designed for your skin.  You may want to choose a cleanser that is free of alcohol and is not harsh on your skin. Depending on your skin type and the severity of your acne, you may want to wash your skin one to two times a day.  Washing more than twice a day may irritate your skin and worsen acne. Moisturizing your skin after using a cleanser can help balance your skin and prevent it from overproducing oil, which can further help prevent acne.  Unless you have dry skin, you may want to choose a moisturizer that is oil-free.

Hydration Is Key

Staying hydrated on a daily basis is a good way to prevent acne, since dehydration can cause your skin to produce more oil, which can result in more acne. Dehydration can also contribute to dullness, inflammation, and redness of the skin. Drinking at least eight cups of water each day can help you maintain healthy, hydrated skin.
